We've already alerted you to ScotRail's development of its specially customised Ford Transits, but now the first vans have actually been deployed, just in time for the current cold snap.

The Ford Transit vans are equipped with plenty of things that will allow a crew to stay out on location for much longer periods of time during freezing conditions. There's a mini kitchen, a microwave, hot water and a sink. They're also all-wheel drive, allowing the vans to reach any point of the railway lines even in adverse conditions.

They are in place mostly to solve problems at unstaffed platforms and come with a variety of tools to help with plenty of situations, including leaf blowers, shovels, trailers and de-icing material spreaders.

The fact that these Ford commercial vans are used for such demanding work is a testament to their reputation, durability and reliability.
