Ford leaves defense bidding battle
The Ford Company mentioned last year that its commercial arm was considering working in partnership with the US Military, in a bid to create Joint Light Tactical vehicles. The partnership would have seen the motoring giants adapt their current new Ford vans designs into something that the army could utilise in a bid to cut costs yet improve equipment.
Just this week, Ford have announced they will no longer be putting forward plans for consideration due to scheduling requirements that Ford and their partners could not comply with.
The multibillion dollar project would have meant that whichever civilian car or van maker that the army approved would have seen them build 22 prototypes for testing.
Ford vehicles, such as Ford Transit vans are extremely well built and are tested to make sure they are as durable as possible, which is one reason why many were very interested in just what the car makers had up their sleeve for the army!
